The Avetlink AK differential gearbox helps transmit motor power to the drive wheels while allowing the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds when turning.
Main Parts of the Drive System
An electric tricycle’s complete drive system typically includes:
- Motor: Provides the power to move the vehicle.
- Reduction gearbox: Reduces motor speed and increases the torque delivered to the wheels.
- Differential: Allows the two wheels on the same drive axle to turn at different speeds.
- Controller: Manages the motor’s operation and power output.
These parts work together, but they are not necessarily all housed inside the differential gearbox.
When Driving Straight
Power passes from the motor through the reduction gearbox to the differential.
The left and right wheels normally rotate at the same speed. The small gears inside the differential rotate with its housing but do not need to spin on their own shafts to accommodate a difference in wheel speed.
When Turning
The outside wheel travels farther than the inside wheel, so it needs to rotate faster.
The small gears inside the differential then spin on their own shafts, allowing the outside wheel to turn faster than the inside wheel while both continue receiving drive torque.
This helps reduce tire scrubbing and makes turning smoother.
Why the Differential Matters
The reduction gearbox provides suitable wheel speed and torque, while the differential allows different wheel speeds during turns. Together, they support smooth power transmission and comfortable vehicle operation.
